Viewpoint : In its brief submitted as part of the public consultation Montréal, physiquement active, Vélo Québec advocates that one of the main reasons for the decline in the physical activity of the Montreal population stems from its urban layout and the motorization of the past few decades. These changes have reduced the time traditionally vested in short commutes by foot or bike. Vélo Québec therefore proposes that active mobility be at the heart of the strategies adopted during the course of this public consultation.

“Using the example of the events it organizes, such as the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, and the mobilization campaigns it implements in the school network, like On the move in the community, Vélo Québec knows that one of the most effective ways to get Montrealers moving is to seize every opportunity to integrate physical activity into daily life,” says Suzanne Lareau, President and CEO of Vélo Québec.
