Vélo Québec welcomed Transport Canada’s confirmation that the new bridge for the St. Lawrence River planned for 2021 includes a bike path, which will be linked to the existing network on both shores. This project will significantly enhance the development of active transportation in the city. Another piece of good news; the ice control structure (estacade) will remain accessible to bicycles during and after the work on the new bridge. In its report tabled last week, Vélo Québec recommended that Transport Canada ensure that the links with shoreline towns also take into account the planned development of the cycling network, mainly the embankments on the Montréal side, which will be freed up once the Bonaventure Expressway is dismantled.
