Summer Challenges 2016

The Summer Challenges are an exciting series of non-timed excursions where you get to decide how far you cycle? How many climbs and descents? At a brisk or gentle pace? Challenge yourself as much as you want, depending on your level of fitness or energy, or your mood on the day of the event!

Metropolitan, Lanaudière, Eastern Townships
Three Friendly Challenges!
Organize your day as you please: choose your route – 50, 75, 100, 125 or 150 km –, start between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., bike at your own pace and have lunch at the rest stop or finish site. Benefit from Vélo Québec’s expertise both before the event – excursion handbook, suggested routes, topographic profiles and GPX data – and during – route signage, on-road supervision, water refill stations and relief vehicles if you’re unable to finish the course. Talk about great value!

The Eastern Townships Challenge
Saturday, September 10 • Start/finish: Mont Orford, Orford
Talk about ending the season on a high note. The beauty of the region jumps out at you right from the start. The Townships abound with magnificent sights and charming municipalities like Eastman, and the 2016 route that winds right around Mount Orford is no exception. Ending on a high note also means pushing your limits on a sometimes demanding route that provides breathtaking views of Estrie from its summits. All this and more awaits you at the peak!

The Metropolitan Challenge
Sunday, May 29 • Start/finish: Super Aqua Club, Pointe-Calumet
Every year, the Metropolitan Challenge proudly kicks off the Go Bike Montréal Festival and the bike touring season. This year’s edition unfolds in the orchard-filled region of Pointe-Calumet, where quiet, undulating roads take you first along the Ottawa River, and then through farmland toward Mirabel. This lovely panorama just outside Montréal provides the setting for an awesome cycling experience. Ready for the challenge?

The Lanaudière Challenge
Saturday, June 11 • Start/finish: Ski Montcalm, Rawdon
For the first time ever, the Lanaudière Challenge takes place in the Rawdon region, along a route that could be described as Irish-Acadian! In fact, in the early 19th century, the northern and hilliest section of the route comprised a predominantly Irish population, hence the name Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare. In the flatter region further south, mainly in Sainte-Marie-Salomé, Acadians returning from exile founded Nouvelle Acadie. Now it’s up to you to write a new page of history by bike!
