Vélo Québec presents the official schedule for the inauguration of the Route verte>> par Vélo Québec Association Montreal, May 3, 2007 - The Route verte is a bicycle route extending for over 4,000 kilometres, developed over more than twelve years by almost a thousand different organizations throughout Quebec. Various activities will be held in June, July and August to mark the inauguration of the most extensive bicycle network in the Americas.
A special event will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007: in the morning, official ceremonies will take place in 25 towns and cities across Quebec, along with various rides and festivals for the general public. These activities will pay tribute to builders of local segments of the Route verte. And in the afternoon, Domaine de Maizerets in Quebec City will be the setting for a major bicycle tourism gathering, as 2,000 Grand Tour participants meet up with numerous members of the region’s cycling clubs.
In addition to the official ceremonies in these 25 municipalities, about forty other events will keep people throughout Quebec riding in time with the Route verte all summer long. Complete details are available in the official Schedule of Activities (48 pages), now available at all PROXIM pharmacies and most bicycle shops.
Vélo Québec Association is also directly overseeing three special initiatives:
July 16 - August 10 • Destination Route verte 07 Six young people will criss-cross the various regions of Quebec to encourage people to hop on their bikes and explore their Route verte. Daily press events and a regularly updated blog at www.routeverte.com.
