Vélo Québec Embraces Recreational Mountain Biking

>> par Vélo Québec
Montreal, Thursday, December 15, 2011 – In January, Vélo Québec will add recreational mountain biking to the different activities for which the organization is already known, as the result of a strategic alliance with the Association pour le développement des sentiers de vélo de montagne au Québec (ADSVMQ).

“We are delighted with the agreement reached with ADSVMQ. This initiative is completely in line with our objectives, including the expansion of the Route verte and the promotion of active transportation,” said Suzanne Lareau, CEO of Vélo Québec. “According to Bicycling in Quebec in 2010, 700,000 adult Quebecers enjoy mountain biking. With the development of trails of various difficulty levels, this number will undoubtedly continue to rise.”

ADSVMQ was created in 2004 with the mission of defending and promoting the interests of recreational mountain biking. According to David Lauzon, President of ADSVMQ, “the integration of recreational mountain biking into Vélo Québec’s activities is a way of marrying complementary expertise. This alliance will make it possible to benefit from the dynamism of Vélo Québec and promote accessibility to this outdoor activity. In addition to encouraging physical fitness, it will also help establish an original tourism product. We therefore ask our supporters and all mountain biking enthusiasts to become Vélo Québec members. This membership is essential for endorsing this new step in the development of recreational mountain biking”.
