A Québec Delegation at the Velo-city Global 2012 Conference>> par Vélo Québec
Montréal, Thursday, June 21, 2012 – A Québec delegation, comprising mainly Vélo Québec, the ministère des Transports du Québec, the Société de transport de Montréal, the Société de vélo en libre-service BIXI, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, the Agence métropolitaine de transport and the Polytechnique de Montréal, will take part in the Velo-city Global 2012 conference, which will be held in Vancouver from June 26 to 29 under the theme Cities in Motion - Sharing Cities’ Success Stories.
This event will be an occasion to promote and share Québec’s expertise in cycling and active mobility, as well as to garner the best ideas from around the world. This is the second time that the Velo-city conference has taken place in Canada – indeed North America. The 1992 edition was held in Montréal at the initiative of Vélo Québec, which organized the first Vélo Mondiale conference bringing together both the Velo-city and Pro Walk/Pro Bike Conferences.
“In Canada, cycling is an issue that inevitably depends on the commitment of cities, provincial transportation administrations and on the mobilization efforts of biking organizations,” said Suzanne Lareau, Executive Director of Vélo Québec. “I am very pleased to have this opportunity to give a glowing report of the development of the Québec cycling culture and to highlight the contribution of Vélo Québec and all its partners.”

Vélo Québec: 45 years of biking initiatives
Vélo Québec has been mobilizing the Quebec cycling community since 1967. Agent of change, its actions include defending cyclists' rights, promoting the bicycle as a daily means of commuting to school and work, and helping governments and municipalities create a friendly environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The organization also organizes the popular Montréal Bike Fest and some 70 trips throughout the world, publishes various books and magazines, including Vélo Mag, and oversees the development of the Route verte, as well as, more recently, recreational mountain biking. Vélo Québec has worked for 45 years to provide Quebecers with an ideal cycling milieu.
