Together at the Go Bike Montréal Festival
May 28 to June 4: Fun takes to the streets!

Montreal, Sunday, May 28, 2017 – The Metropolitan Challenge and 3,500 participating cyclists are now officially kicking off Montreal’s festival season and the Go Bike Montréal Festival, a week-long lineup of urban cycling activities for one and all. As the city turns 375 and Vélo Québec turns 50, the Festival invites cyclists to join in on the fun at a series of much-anticipated events in the coming days, including the Tour la Nuit and Tour de l’Île de Montréal.

Together at the Tour de l'Île de Montréal: Sunday, June 4
On Sunday, cycling enthusiasts are invited to a very special Tour de l’Île de Montréal, commemorating Vélo Québec’s 50th anniversary. The event will get underway with a musical performance by popular singer-songwriter Vincent Vallières. The 50-km route will feature themed stations, a mobile exhibition on the history of cycling in Montreal (Deux roues, une histoire) and a spectacular “Montréal Complètement Cirque” experience at the finish line.
  • Start (featuring Vincent Vallières): 9:15 a.m., Parc Avenue
  • Finish: Jeanne-Mance Park
  • Routes: 50 or 28 km / 50 km Express / 100 or 65 km Découverte

Together at the Tour la Nuit: Friday, June 2
As day turns into night, cyclists will gather for a colourful and fun-filled 20-kilometre bike parade through car-free city streets, cheered along by thousands of other participants.
  • Start: 8:30 p.m., Parc-La Fontaine Avenue
  • Finish: Jeanne-Mance Park
  • Route: 20 km

Lecture: Vancouver – Green City, Cycling City!, Thursday, June 1
Vélo Québec is proud to welcome Dale Bracewell, Manager, Transportation Planning, City of Vancouver. During this talk, he will address the city’s cycling strategy within the context of its Transportation 2040 Plan.

Bike-to-Work Day, Wednesday, May 31
Every day, 12 months a year, thousands of Montrealers choose cycling as a healthier, faster and budget-friendly alternative for getting around town. During the week-long Go Bike Montréal Festival, everyone is invited to give cycle-commuting a whirl. It’s a fun and oxygen-filled way to get the morning started. During Bike-to-Work Day, Vélo Québec and its partners will be on hand to answer questions about a variety of topics, including road safety, route planning and how to combine cycling and public transit.
  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., McGill College Avenue

Vélo Mag Happy Hour, Wednesday, May 31
Vélo Mag magazine will hold a “5 à 7” style reception to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization and launch its special edition on the history of cycling in the province. Former Vélo Québec head and guest editor Michel Labrecque will say a few words about the issue and its many contributors. The event will also present the debut of a video looking back at the past 50 years of Vélo Québec.
