Le Tour des Enfants is today :
It’s cool to be on a bike on the streets of Mont-Royal and St-Laurent!

Montreal, May 27th 2001. Sunday May 27th will be a great day for the 8 000 kids aged 6 to 12 participating in the 10th edition of the Tour des Enfants. To celebrate this anniversary, they will take to the streets as of 9AM and ride on a completely new course, entirely closed to automobile traffic.
Starting off at Jarry park, the young cyclists will discover new neighborhoods in Montreal, Mont-Royal and St-Laurent. The course will take them riding along the rivière des Prairies and they will be able to take an energizing break at the parc de la Merci rest site.
Close to 1 700 volunteers will ensure the cyclists’ security at the start and arrival site and all along the course. Their smiles and availability will help make this day a veritable party.
After the ride, the young cyclists will meet up with their family and friends at Jarry park for an afternoon of great fun. No less than 36 000 people will take part in a picnic and several fun activities. On the schedule are : Gino the Magician, mimes Roche Papier Ciseaux, Cirq & Barbarie and their trained dog, Brazilian dancers Capoeira, tightrope walker Claude Ballon, and the many surprises that the sponsors of the event have in store for the kids.
This 10th edition of le Tour des Enfants is the start signal to the activities of the Montreal Bike Fest, a week of events and activities under the sign of the bicycle. On Tuesday May 29th, Steve Smith will tell of his own adventure of crossing the Atlantic on a pedalo during the bicycle-lecture. On Thursday May 31st, everyone is invited to get around on a bike for B day. On Friday June 1st, nocturnal cyclists will light up the city for un Tour la Nuit. Finally, on Sunday June 3rd, the 17th edition of le Tour de l’Île promises music and songs for the cyclists.
A presentation of la Fédération des producteurs de lait du Québec, in collaboration with RONA, the Montreal Bike Fest is organized by the Tour de l’Île de Montreal corporation. This non profit organization’s mission consists of promoting a better quality of life and a healthier environment by organizing cycling events and trips.
