Montréal, June 2, 2002 — It may be only 18 years old … but it has lots of experience! The 30,000 cyclists who take off on Sunday for the 18th Tour de l’Île will enjoy the best of both worlds: fun and laughter in party mood…and precision organization.
For 2002, the Tour de l’Île has taken on a fresh new look: a shorter route (50 km), the double Express option for really keen cyclists who want to go the distance twice, the hilarious Just for Laughs team helping with street animation, "big" surprises like a giant fan, "mass" entry into our gigantic stadium, challenges that don't take themselves too seriously, and more.
The race begins on Boulevard Saint-Joseph near Parc Laurier, at 9:15 a.m. Ensuring that everything runs smoothly will be 3,000 volunteers. This year's Tour takes in more than 15 different boroughs of the new City of Montréal and promises to be one of the most exciting so far.
Presented by the Fédération des producteurs de lait du Québec, in conjunction with RONA, la Féria du vélo is organized by Le Tour de l'Île de Montréal, a non-profit organization dedicated to a better quality of life and a healthier environment. La Féria helps to make Montréal a festive venue, a great place to live and a favourite tourist destination.
