Prerequisites

  • Be aged 14 and over (16 and over for Tour la Nuit);
  • Be available for the duration of your assignment (approximately 5 to 7 hours of involvement at Tour la Nuit and 5 to 8 hours of involvement at Tour de l’Île de Montréal).

What's included

  • training prior to the event;
  • Go vélo Montréal volunteer t-shirt;
  • lunch, the day of your participation;
  • many participation prizes to be won;
  • a certificate of attendance (on request).

Job descriptions

Walking and cycling safety courses

Bicycle and foot safety volunteers can join the cycling train once the last participants have passed.

  • Closing streets
  • Diverting traffic
  • Encouraging cyclists

Requirement :

  • Bicycle required for the bike/walk safety position

Sites

Various positions to be filled at the start, finish and relay sites.

  • Informing and directing cyclists
  • Supervise site travel
  • Supporting the various departments

Welcoming volunteers

  • Welcoming and directing volunteers
  • Distribute materials
  • Setting up and dismantling the venue

Transport: driver/detacher

Prerequisites You must be at least 21 years old and have a driver's license.

  • Driving a vehicle
  • Handling equipment (cones, barricades, etc.)

Transport: accompanying bus

  • Accompanying volunteers on their journey
  • Guiding the driver
  • Ensure radio communication with the organization

Team Leader

  • Follow-up with volunteers
  • Motivating team members
  • Supervise the work of team members on the day of the event

Bicycle mechanics

  • Ride with the participants
  • Responding to minor mechanical problems

Requirements:

  • Bicycle mandatory
  • Basic knowledge of bicycle mechanics (e.g., repairing flat tires; adjusting saddles, handlebars, derailleurs and brake pads)
  • Provide your own tool kit

First aid on a bike

  • Ride with the participants
  • Responding to medical needs

Requirements:

  • Bicycle mandatory
  • Provide your own first-aid kit
  • At the time of registration, general first-aid training (16 h), valid on the day of the event. Find out more about requirements.
CERTIFICATION FROM A RECOGNIZED SCHOOL

General first aid training

Requirements
  • General first aid and CPR courses, minimum 14 to 16 hours in length
Contents
  • Preparing for action
  • The emergency medical services system
  • Check, call, rescue
  • Respiratory tract emergencies
  • Respiratory and circulatory emergencies
  • First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Wound care
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Sudden medical emergencies
  • Environmentally-related diseases
  • Poisoning (including opioid overdoses)

Some accepted training courses
  • Canadian Cross-Rouge General first aid and CPR (16 hours)
  • Ambulance Saint-Jean Standard first aid CPR / AED level C (16 hours)
  • Lifesaving Society courses lasting more than 16 hours
  • Canadian Ski Patrol Patroller card (75 hours)
  • CSST First aid in the workplace: 16 hours

Note: some professions do not require first aid certification, as long as their right to practice is verifiable, e.g. doctors, nurses, ambulance attendants, etc.

If you have or plan to obtain first-aid training that differs from those mentioned above, it is your responsibility to validate its acceptance with Vélo Québec.
