Montreal, Monday, August 23, 2021 - This weekend, bicycles will be the stars on the streets of Montreal! Presented by Les Producteurs de lait du Québec, in collaboration with Desjardins, the Go vélo Montréal Festival is back with the presentation of new versions of the Tour la Nuit and Tour de l’Île de Montréal. Two events to celebrate back-to-school cycling and, above all, to share the pleasure of riding together on car-free streets!

For Jean-François Rheault, President and CEO of Vélo Québec, «This year, Montreal will be treated to not 1, but 2 parades... of cyclists at Tour la Nuit and Tour de l'Île, two of the city's finest festivals in motion. With its 6,000 cyclists, the Tour la Nuit is already sold out. But there's still time to register for the Tour de l’Île de Montréal next Sunday. As it's free for those aged 12 and under (10 $ for 13-17 year-olds), it's a great activity to enjoy with family and friends as you cycle the 33 km of the Tour. We're looking forward to celebrating cycling together!»

The singer-songwriter Émile Bilodeau - spokesperson for the Go vélo Montréal Festival - will also be on hand this Sunday to ride the Tour de l’Île de Montréal. «At GO, I look forward to seeing you on the only Sunday of the year when the streets belong to bikes. And for those of you who live along the route, join in the fun by getting out your musical instruments, pots and spoons to celebrate summer, back-to-school and cycling! I look forward to riding with you and discovering Montreal at the rhythm of cycling.

Next weekend's program

  • A Tour la Nuit, Friday, August 27

A magical Friday under the stars. A 22-km, car-free strolling route through the streets of 4 Montreal boroughs. Starts at 8 pm. Activities end at midnight.

  • Tour de l’Île de Montréal, Sunday, August 29

A dream Sunday in the heart of the city! A 33 km, car-free route through the streets of 8 Montreal boroughs. On the program: cyclists pass through La Fontaine, Champdoré and Maisonneuve parks, and cross the Olympic Stadium. Departure at 9 a.m. End of activities at 2 p.m.

An edition without a single start/finish site

To ensure the smooth flow of cyclists and adequate distance along the routes, there will be no single start/finish site. When they registered, participants had to choose a starting point from among the 8 access points, as well as a starting time from among the proposed time slots. As cyclists will complete their loop at the same point from which they started, the routes will be entirely closed to motorized traffic for the duration of the event.

Infocirculation and Waze for better travel planning this weekend!

For Tour la Nuit and Tour de l’Île de Montréal, car travel may require a little more planning than usual. To find out everything you need to know about the route of the Tours, closed streets and traffic in real time, the public is invited to consult Waze and the Infocirculation page on the Vélo Québec website. There's everything you need to plan your trip by car, bike or metro: www.velo.qc.ca/infocirculation
