Montreal, Thursday, January 12, 2023 - Quebec researchers publish more than 22,500 studies a year, according to the Observatoire des sciences et des technologies. This work not only advances knowledge, but also society. For a 30e consecutive year, the magazine Québec Science unveils the 10 most significant Quebec discoveries of 2022. The list includes discoveries in fields as diverse as marine geology, psychology, microbiology and engineering.

The dirty side of washing

The chore of washing becomes even more painful when you consider its environmental cost. Can we wash greener? Estimates vary, but it's estimated that domestic washing machines consume over 700 TWh of electricity per year worldwide - more than all of Canada - and «swallow» around 20 km of water.of water (or, roughly speaking, 7 million Olympic-sized swimming pools). Is this really sustainable?

The uncertain restoration of wetlands
