Trail maintenance

Here are some of the elements required to maintain mountain bike trails: tools, volunteer management, safety, environment and financing.

Security

Safety in the forest

The Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) is offering three free books containing the information you need to use a chainsaw, stay healthy in the forest and organize first aid in the forest. Very useful for management chores when help is far away!

Emergency services in remote areas

In response to a report by the Québec Ombudsman, the Public Safety Department set up a committee to develop a frame of reference and an awareness-raising campaign aimed at increasing the safety of emergency responders and off-road users.

Mountain bike volunteering

Mountain biking would not be what it is today without the dedicated involvement of thousands of volunteers. Your presence makes all the difference.

Environment

Threatened or vulnerable species in Quebec

All species of flora and fauna have their own characteristics and are important, whether for their ecological, scientific, food, economic, medicinal, cultural or social value. With the Loi sur les espèces menacées ou vulnérables, the Quebec government has committed itself to safeguarding all of Quebec's genetic diversity.

Wetlands

In Quebec, wetlands occupy some 17 million hectares or 170,000 km², or approximately 10 % of the entire territory. Whether ponds, marshes, swamps or peat bogs, wetlands represent the essential links in the web of natural environments in Quebec. These ecosystems comprise all sites saturated with water or flooded for a sufficiently long period to influence the nature of the soil or the composition of the vegetation.

Volunteer management

When it comes to demonstrating the benefits of volunteer involvement in the community, it's possible to assign a financial value to volunteering.

Financing

The Route verte management area compiles an array of different funding sources, some of which can be used to develop natural-surface trails.
