Montréal, August 24, 2022 - In a open letter published last week, Piétons Québec, Trajectoire Québec, Vélo Québec and Vivre en Ville are calling on the political parties to commit to implementing solutions that will enable Quebec households to free themselves from the financial burden represented by their second car.

«The government can and must act to help Quebec households shed the financial burden of car ownership by offering a variety of sustainable mobility options and promoting the development of complete living environments that enable Quebecers to free themselves from their second car,» say representatives of Piétons Québec, Trajectoire Québec, Vélo Québec and Vivre en Ville.

On this subject, the organizations are proposing a non-exhaustive list of solutions to be implemented in a complementary manner to put an end to the Quebec population's dependence on motorized travel. Transportation is the second biggest expense for Quebec households, accounting for over 20% of their budget. Moreover, action to reduce solo car use goes hand in hand with achieving the climate objectives that Quebec has set itself.

The benefits are many, and solutions exist. With elections just around the corner, it's time to find out what political parties are planning to do.
