An idea that's gaining ground...
In the summer of 2020, Vélo Québec, in collaboration with the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal, launched one of the very first bicycle education parks in Quebec, the Jardin du Petit Monde à Bicyclette. This all-bike playground offered local children a small town on their own scale, with mini-panels and mini-streets to learn how to pedal like grown-ups, as well as play modules to have fun and become more adept on two wheels.
This initiative caught the eye of Birth and growth, the reference website and magazine on the development of children aged 0 to 8. Learning to ride - on a scooter, a sled or a bike - is an exciting stage in a toddler's development. What parent hasn't felt a rush of emotion watching their child's first pedal strokes? At Vélo Québec, we can't get enough of this magical moment! And cycling isn't just a child's pleasure: it's also, and above all, a tool for the rest of your life, a healthy way of getting around that you need to learn to use to make it your best ally.
No wonder, then, that Naître et grandir wanted children from different Quebec communities to experience the cycling education park. And since not all these children can come to the park, Naître et grandir and Vélo Québec have made it their mission to bring the park to them!
Cyclomini educational tour in Quebec
In 2021, two Cyclomini educational trails will travel the roads of Quebec to meet the cyclists of tomorrow. Thanks to ephemeral installations, children will be able to test their skills on fun, colorful modules (a prelude to a passion for mountain biking?), tame essential road signs, learn how to behave at crosswalks... And those little wheels your child refuses to give up? We hope to convince him or her to do without them for good with the draisienne method! Thanks to our animators, who will provide useful advice and mechanical adjustments, we're sure that children will enjoy pedaling all summer long!
