Montreal, Sunday, June 4, 2023 - The Montreal Go Bike Festival came to a close at 4:40 p.m. today, as all Tour de l’Île de Montréal participants arrived at Maisonneuve Park, where the party was on. A successful week of cycling and urban activities!

Highlights

Unforgettable moments for the 17,000 Tour de l’Île de Montréal cyclists

For its 38e edition, the Tour de l'Île offered a choice of 4 cycling experiences: a regular 47 km route and a discovery route with 3 choices of circuit: 53, 75 or 99 km. Departures from Rosemont Boulevard were staggered from 7 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The event, which closed the Festival Go vélo Montréal, was back in its usual form this year, with a single start and finish site to accommodate thousands of cyclists: Maisonneuve Park.

  • From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., participants on the discovery trail set off at their own pace. An early start on a marked course not closed to traffic.
  • At precisely 9:23 a.m., the Tour de l’Île de Montréal got underway. This classic event took place on streets closed to motorized traffic across 7 arrondissements.

Tour la Nuit a new record

On Friday June 2, a magnificent illuminated cycling train with over 19,000 participants covered 24 km of the 24e edition of the Tour la Nuit. This year, the route took cyclists along the pretty Rivière des Prairies as they skirted Gouin Boulevard. The Tour la Nuit was also an opportunity for BIXI Montréal to announce the launch of an innovative new product: the illuminated BIXI.

Défi métropolitain: over 3,300 participants took part

On May 28, over 3,300 cyclists took part in the Défi métropolitain from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, on a beautiful sunny Sunday to kick off the Festival Go vélo Montréal events.

Camille Thomé's lecture: a source of inspiration for Quebec

The Go vélo Montréal Festival is a forum for brainstorming and reflection on key cycling issues. This year, Vélo Québec welcomed Camille Thomé, Director of Vélo & Territoires, as guest speaker. On this occasion, she addressed the potential of bicycle tourism as a political lever for territorial development, presenting the progress made in France following the introduction of a national bicycle plan in 2018. An inspiring conference to develop and position bicycle tourism in Quebec!

A date in 2024
The next edition of the Go vélo Montréal Festival will take place from May 26 to June 2, 2024. It will be an opportunity to celebrate the 25the anniversary of the Tour la Nuit!

THANK YOU!
Thank you to all our partners, to the thousands of cyclists and volunteers, to our extraordinary spokesperson, actress and host Julie Ringuette, and to the residents and shopkeepers of the neighbourhoods crossed by the routes, who made this great collective celebration so unique!
