Montreal, April 10, 2024 -  Vélo Québec today announces the five campuses recognized in the winter 2023-2024 certification round of the VELOSYMPATHIC movement. In all, since the program began, 27 campuses have demonstrated their commitment to making cycling a real transportation and leisure option for all.

« This latest round of certification testifies to the ongoing commitment of colleges and universities to sustainable and active mobility. Indeed, four of the five campuses certified today are in their 2e, or even 3e application. This testifies to the constant efforts they have been making for several years to maintain their achievements and support the growth of cycling on campus. Vélo Québec is honoured to salute these efforts and hopes that this enthusiasm will be reflected positively in future rounds..says Magali Bebronne, Program Director, Vélo Québec.

A continuous improvement process

Campuses wishing to join the VÉLOSYMPATHIQUE movement fill out a comprehensive application form outlining their initiatives to develop a genuine cycling culture. An independent panel of judges evaluates the applications based on the answers given in the form and the results of a survey of local evaluators. The committee then determines the level of certification to be awarded.

There are 5 levels of certification: bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. Candidates who do not meet the certification criteria, but who demonstrate a clear commitment to the development of a bicycle culture, receive an honorable mention. All candidates receive a feedback report with recommendations they can implement to further their efforts. Find out more about how applications are assessed, read this article.

Campuses wishing to get involved are invited to visit the www.velosympathique.com and register for information webinars. The next application dates are April 19, 2024 and the December 13, 2024.

The VÉLOSYMPATHIQUE movement receives financial support from the Quebec government through the Action-Climat Québec program and is in line with the objectives of the Plan for a Green Economy 2030.
