Why choose a bicycle for everyday life?

If you're looking for a practical way to get to college or university, a bicycle is an excellent choice. First of all, it saves you money, because it's much less expensive than driving, while being environmentally friendly. What's more, you can avoid traffic jams, giving you more flexibility in your schedule. By choosing to get around by bike, you're also doing your health a world of good, as you combine transport with daily physical activity. In short, cycling allows you to combine economy, efficiency, profitability and well-being, while contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Economical

Choosing a bicycle as a means of daily transport is considerably more economical than using a car. A car costs an average of 10,000 $ per year, including gas, maintenance, insurance and parking. By comparison, a bicycle only costs you around 400 $ a year, including purchase, maintenance and accessories. Over five years, by choosing the transportation cocktail rather than the solo car, you can save up to 32,000 $, a considerable sum that can be reinvested in your studies or leisure activities.

Efficient

Cycling is a surprisingly efficient way to get around on a daily basis. To cover 5 km, you need an average of 25 minutes or less, which is often faster than by car at rush hour. By avoiding traffic jams, you not only gain in speed, but also in peace and quiet. What's more, parking a bike is child's play: no need to look for a space, you can attach your bike right next to your school or activity.

Cost-effective

Cycling is incredibly cost-effective, both for you and for society. According to a cost/benefit analysis, every kilometer cycled generates around 22 centimes of benefit for the community, thanks to health savings, infrastructure preservation and improved overall efficiency. By contrast, one kilometer by car costs society around 20 centimes, due to negative impacts on health and the environment. What's more, the wear and tear on roads is much less with a bicycle, since 9,600 bicycles cause as much wear and tear as a single car. And let's not forget the space savings: a bike takes up much less room to park, freeing up valuable urban space.

Good for your health and the planet

Cycling has many benefits for your physical and mental health. By pedaling regularly, you strengthen your cardiovascular system, develop your muscles and improve your overall fitness. What's more, physical activity releases endorphins, helping to reduce stress and improve your mental well-being. From an ecological point of view, cycling is an exemplary mode of transport: it produces no polluting emissions and helps reduce greenhouse gases. By choosing cycling, you're doing something concrete for your health and that of the planet.
