Gone are the days when winter biking was the preserve of a handful of snow-bank kamikazes. Today, cyclists of all ages and from all walks of life take to their bikes armed with mittens and tuques. Welcome to the 4-season cycling era!

This conference will give you all the tips you need to become a 4-season cyclist. We'll cover the safety aspects to consider, the best way to plan your itineraries, the changes to make to adapt your bike, essential equipment and all the other debates that animate the winter cycling community.

After this talk, you'll be ready to give winter biking a try and know how to respect your limits.

A winter cyclist for 20 years, I recently confessed to myself the real reason for my 4-season cycling addiction: laziness! No need to shovel my car, no need to wait for a bus in the cold. An active laziness that Lafargue would not have shied away from.

An urban sociologist and mountain dweller in my spare time, I work at Vélo Québec as the person in charge of community relations and mobilization.

Procedure and registration

Presentation at 7 p.m. followed by a question period.

La Maison des cyclistes: a unique cycling hub

The Maison des cyclistes is located a stone's throw from Parc La Fontaine, where two of Montreal's most important bicycle paths intersect. In addition to Vélo Québec's offices, it features a bicycle travel agency, a boutique and a café, where Vélo Mag conferences are held.

The Maison des cyclistes is a space for services, exchanges, information and troubleshooting for cyclists, and is a project financed under the Agreement on the cultural development of Montreal between the Ville de Montréal and the Government of Quebec.
