While the government's recent adoption of two amendments to the Highway Safety Code to promote cyclist safety was welcomed, the fact remains that the regulatory distance to be respected when overtaking a cyclist is a measure that needs to be explained. That's why Vélo Québec applauds the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec's speedy production of two 45-second web spots clearly illustrating how to perform the maneuver. Let's hope that a TV version with real vehicles in motion will be aired this summer, as well as a message on the prevention of vehicle entrapment.
