Elections 2018: vote bike!

Last autumn, we published Bicycle Vision 2025, the manifesto of tomorrow's Quebec by bike. Supported by some 70 leaders and activists from the worlds of business, mobility, research, tourism, recreation and sport across Quebec, this Bicycle Vision 2025 has become Vélo Québec's electoral platform at both municipal and provincial levels. Several elements of Bike Vision 2025 were discussed during consultations on the road safety bill and during our representations to the Minister of Transport on the sustainable mobility policy.

Even though we now have a new Road Safety Code and a sustainable mobility policy, most of the objectives of Bike Vision 2025 remain valid. Particularly the one on the importance of investing significantly in cycling infrastructure. This objective is one of the 23 proposals by a collective of environmental organizations in the run-up to the Quebec elections on October 1. Changing our transportation habits and planning the territory to promote public transit and active transportation are also among these proposals. That's why Vélo Québec has decided to join this collective and take action to ensure that environmental issues are on the agenda of the various political parties and aspiring MPs.

If we really want to harness the full potential of cycling, public investment must be forthcoming. The Quebec government's sustainable mobility policy is a start, but the game is far from won, which is why it's important to get involved, each in our own way. For the October 1st elections, let's go with #JeVoteVélo!
