When we talk about promoting cycling on a daily basis, we often talk about the role of municipalities and government. This is only natural, since it is they who are responsible for integrating cycling into our transportation systems. But at the other end of our daily commute, there's school or work. There's also our favorite shop, where we regularly stop off for a bite to eat. These businesses and educational institutions that we frequent every day have a major role to play in bringing about changes in our travel habits, and to welcome for those who choose to get around actively. This translates into the installation of bicycle parking facilities, changing rooms and showers, the setting up of a bicycle committee, and so on. For a business affected by the implementation of a bike lane - a current issue on 3rd Avenue in Limoilou, Quebec City - this translates into a positive attitude to contribute to the success of the development.

On June 6 and 13, in Montreal and Quebec City respectively, we invite the corporate and institutional world to our VELOSYMPATHIC 101 information session on how to create a cycling culture within an organization. If you're a business owner, an educational institution manager or an employee involved in your company and want to make a difference in favor of active mobility, these meetings are for you.

In the shorter term, as part of the Go vélo Montréal Festival, I invite you to attend the lecture by Chris Kenyon, Thursday, May 31, 6 p.m., at the Maison du développement durable. He'll be telling us about the 200 London businesses that have supported the roll-out of the UK capital's major cycling network. A panel discussion will follow on how to reconcile cycling and local business. Don't miss it!
