Vélo Québec has welcomed Transport Canada's confirmation that the new bridge over the St. Lawrence, scheduled for completion in 2021, will include a bicycle path linking to the existing network on both banks. This will be a major addition to the development of active transportation in the metropolis. Another piece of good news is that the pier will remain accessible to bicycles during and after work on the new bridge. In its brief submitted last week, Vélo Québec recommended that Transport Canada ensure that links with riverside towns also take into account the planned development of the cycling network, in particular the banks on the Montreal side that will be freed up when the Bonaventure Expressway is dismantled.
