Montreal, Wednesday 1er may 2024 - Bicycle Month in Quebec kicks off today with official recognition by the National Assembly. For several years now, Bicycle Month has been celebrated by numerous municipalities and organizations, but without being recognized by the government. On Tuesday, April 23, thanks to the unanimous adoption of a motion in the National Assembly, May officially became Bike Month in Quebec. From now until May 31, Vélo Québec is inviting Quebecers to get out their bikes and take part in the friendly Bike Month Challenge competition, which will take place across the province.
THE BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE: it's happening on the Geovelo app!
This year, to take part in the Challenge, participants are invited to use the Geovelo platform, an intuitive and simplified application that is also a useful tool for planning bike trips. In addition to individuals and organizations, the Challenge is now available to campuses, communities and territories. It's a free, friendly competition designed to show how easy and enjoyable it is to get around by bike. The goal: convince as many people as possible to cycle for at least 10 minutes during the month of May.
To be won: six bikes and gift cards from Décathlon, annual cards from SÉPAQ, Arkel gift vouchers, monthly Bixi subscriptions, subscriptions to Vélo Mag and Québec Science magazines, and much more. A total value of over 6,000 $

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN: «À vélo, tu peux!»
To remove barriers to the use of bicycles as a means of transport, but also to highlight the many related benefits, Vélo Québec is taking the opportunity to launch an awareness campaign under the slogan «À vélo, tu peux! On the menu are short videos featuring people who use bicycles as a means of daily or leisure transportation, despite certain constraints such as age, geographical location, family obligations or physical limitations.
