Montréal, Sunday, May 25, 2025 - The Go vélo Montréal Festival, presented by Lait in collaboration with Desjardins, kicks off today with the Défi métropolitain, offering a full week of cycling and urban activities for everyone.

Over the next few days, Montreal will be vibrating to the rhythm of bicycles at popular events such as Tour la Nuit (Friday, May 30) and Tour de l’Île de Montréal (Sunday, June 1). Festival organizer Vélo Québec and actress, host and proud spokesperson Julie Ringuette invite Quebecers to get on their bikes for a week of 100 % vélo.
Vélo Québec president and CEO Jean-François Rheault and Julie Ringuette will be available for interviews before and during the event.
Défi métropolitain - Sunday, May 25
Today, Brossard welcomes participants in the 23rd edition of the Défi métropolitain. The event offers a choice of 57, 83, 105 and 156 km routes. Participants ride at their own pace, with no stress, no stopwatch, and unparalleled support. Each year, the event is an opportunity to discover a new part of the greater metropolitan area.

International conference, Thursday May 29 - When driving isn't an option: how to free yourself from car dependency
The Festival is proud to welcome Anna Zivarts, disability rights activist and director of the Disability Mobility Initiative from Disability Rights Washington. Through her research, advocacy and activism, she gives a voice to people who don't drive, and campaigns for fairer, more accessible and more humane transportation systems. At this conference, she will shed light on these often overlooked realities and present an inclusive vision of mobility.

Tour la nuit - Friday, May 30
Starting at 6 p.m., head to Maisonneuve Park, where you'll find street food trucks, a lively terrace and a host of activities to keep you entertained before the start. The festive atmosphere will be provided by Calcium, the official mascot of Le Lait, and Julie Ringuette, the official spokesperson for the Festival Go vélo Montréal! Our host Benoit Cossette will also be on hand to warm up the crowd. The big cycling party kicks off at 8 p.m. with a 21 km car-free urban route through the streets of Montreal.

Tour de l’Île de Montréal - Sunday, June 1
The Festival's flagship event, Tour de l'Île celebrates its 40th anniversary with an 80s theme. In addition to musical entertainment and crowd-pleasers, you're invited to come in costume for a colorful experience! With streets closed to traffic and dedicated to thousands of cyclists, you'll discover different parts of the city. Whether you're a beginner or an enthusiast, there are routes to suit all tastes.
