The 25th edition of the annual list of the year's scientific discoveries and a special feature on the science of memories!

4 January 2018

Montreal, Thursday, January 4, 2018 - For the 25th consecutive year, the magazine Québec Science unveils the most impressive Quebec discoveries of the past year. A jury of journalists and researchers selected this year's top 10 research discoveries from a record 124 works published in 2017. The list includes discoveries in fields as diverse as archaeology, medicine, genetics, ecology, psycho-education, mechanical engineering, evolutionary biology, neuroscience and microbiology.

«For a quarter of a century, this competition has enabled us to highlight the excellence of research carried out in Quebec. It's also a unique opportunity to explain and illustrate the beauty and complexity of the scientific process to the general public,» says Marie Lambert-Chan, editor-in-chief of Québec Science.

In collaboration with Canal Savoir, Québec Science invites the public to vote for «The Québec Science Discovery of the Year 2017 Audience Award» at www.quebecscience.qc.ca/decouverte2017 by February 14.

Magazine cover story: the science of memories

How are memories imprinted on the brain? Where are they stored? Can they be modified? Can they be erased? New techniques are literally shedding light on these questions, which have plagued science for centuries. Journalist Marine Corniou offers a full 14-page dossier on the subject.
