Montreal, October 17, 2019 - The 2nd edition of the Forum VELOSYMPATHIC, organized by Vélo Québec. Gathered under the theme Accelerating movement, A hundred or so elected officials and municipal professionals exchanged ideas and shared their strategies for making cycling a real transportation and leisure option in their communities. The event was attended by Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education and Minister responsible for the Status of Women.
The 2019 edition of the Forum VÉLOSYMPATHIQUE 2019 was an opportunity to take the pulse of the most recent initiatives to accelerate the bicycle movement, in municipalities characterized by very different environments. The examples of Sainte-Julie, Drummondville, Montreal, Bromont and Sherbrooke presented at the Forum are testimony to the fact that bicycle culture can take root in all kinds of environments, large and small. This is what we wanted to affirm by holding the event in Bromont, a municipality certified VÉLOSYMPATHIQUE silver level, after having held it in Laval last year,« points out Sandrine Cabana-Degani, program manager at Vélo Québec and responsible for the VÉLOSYMPATHIQUE movement.
Special guest at the event, City of Ottawa Councillor Jeff Lieper spoke of how Canada's National Capital is taking sustainable mobility seriously, with the bold deployment of its cycling network and the recent launch of its light rail transit service.
