Montreal, Thursday, February 21, 2019 - As part of the Montreal Bike Show, from February 22 to 24, that Vélo Québec present the brand new Route verte. Initiated by Vélo Québec in 1995, the Route verte - which will be 25 years old in 2020 - has rapidly become the longest cycling route in America, now exceeding 5,300 kilometers!

After several months of development, Vélo Québec is pleased to present the new Route verte website, featuring a new, more user-friendly interface, increased speed of use, content more focused on the cycling experience, more photos, all accessible on all platforms. Cyclists will find a wealth of continually updated information, in both French and English, including: practical advice before setting off and on the road, transportation services available, the Cyclist Vigil (the possibility of reporting a problem on the Route verte), the Bienvenue Cyclistes! accommodation network, and a new FAQ section.

Route verte's cartography also gets a facelift thanks to a substantial donation worth 172,000 $ from geomatic software company Esri Canada. These sums were invested in the development of cartography and its applications, as well as in the acquisition of software for the new site.

«By coordinating the various levels of government to provide Quebec cyclists with up-to-date information, Vélo Québec has shown the rest of Canada how to create the best bikeway map in the world. We need healthy, economical alternatives to the car, and Vélo Québec makes bicycling an easy choice,» asserts Alex Miller, President of Esri Canada.

This new interactive map lets you calculate your route with elevation profile, geolocate yourself, identify Route verte networks more efficiently, and view real-time pictograms of work in progress (closures, openings, etc.). Further enhancements will follow over the coming weeks.

«On the eve of its 25th anniversary, Route verte is proud to announce the launch of its new website, which will serve cyclists even better. Route verte is active throughout Quebec, thanks to the collaboration and financial support of all the regions. It should also be noted that all the work involved in developing and improving the Route verte and redesigning the website has been made possible thanks to the participation of the Quebec government, through the Ministère des Transports du Québec,» points out the Minister of Transport. Louis Carpentier, director of Route verte development at Vélo Québec.
