Montreal, Thursday, August 22, 2019 - On the cover of its latest issue, Québec Science presents the indefatigable Jane Goodall, the famous primatologist who defied the odds to document the habits of chimpanzees, and who today puts her determination and zeal at the service of the planet. A long interview in the magazine, on newsstands today.

At 85, Jane Goodall is more determined than ever to wage what will undoubtedly be her last and most important battle: convincing the public and politicians that there is still time to act to protect the planet. « We're living through the sixth great extinction, and there's no room for doubt: if we carry on as usual, there will be no more chimpanzees, elephants, lions, giraffes or any number of other animals left in the wild. »she reminds us.

The magazine also features a dossier on the failure of science teaching in Quebec. Neglected at primary level, badly treated at secondary level, science is the poor relation of the Quebec school system. What can be done about it? A reflection by journalist Joël Leblanc, also to be read in Québec Science this month.

On the reporting side, the magazine takes us live into the Universe... The detection of gravitational waves, in 2015, shook up the world of astronomy. Since then, discoveries have been pouring in: in addition to observing certain phenomena through telescopes, researchers can now detect their vibrations. Where do we stand in this quest? A report by Marine Corniou.
