Montreal, Thursday, April 11, 2019 - Vélo Québec unveils the Go vélo Montréal Festival, taking place from May 26 to June 2. Presented by Les Producteurs de lait du Québec, the Festival invites cycling enthusiasts to register now to take part in its major popular events: the Metropolitan challenge, the Tour la Nuit, which this year features an unprecedented visit to the Olympic Stadium and, of course, the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, where the spokesman Émile Bilodeau, accompanied by his guests Lou-Adriane CassidyJérôme 50 and his musicians, will kick things off in song on Sunday June 2.

« I'm delighted to be back on stage at the 35th Tour de l’Île de Montréal this year. I had such a great time last year! Being a spokesperson is my way of promoting the cause of cycling. Sign up, there'll be thousands of us out having fun in the streets, and the city will be all about bikes! »declares Émile Bilodeau,singer-songwriter and spokesperson for the Go vélo Montréal Festival.

« Day or night, the Festival Go vélo Montréal is a chance to discover our city in the most beautiful way, on two wheels and without cars. This year, the experience will be even more memorable at Tour la Nuit, with the joyous cyclists passing through the Olympic Stadium itself. A guaranteed wow! »tells us Joëlle Sévigny, general manager of Vélo Québec Événements et Voyages.

The Festival is a week of cycling and urban activities that includes three major events held in Montreal and the metropolitan area, as well as bike-to-work activities.

Défi métropolitain: Sunday, May 26

Kicking off the Festival Go vélo Montréal and the cyclosportive season, the popular Défi métropolitain offers untimed courses from 50 to 150 kilometers. Departing from Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, this year it visits the north of the metropolitan region, via Laurentides and Lanaudière, and follows part of the Achigan River.

One Tour la Nuit: Friday, May 31

A Tour la Nuit is a carnival-like event, a festive Friday evening, a colorful parade where cyclists of all ages form a luminous ribbon of some 21 kilometers. This is Montreal nightlife at its best!

NOVELTY - AN ORIGINAL PASSAGE Tour la Nuit: this year, cyclists will experience their moment of glory as they literally roll through the Olympic Stadium!

Tour de l’Île de Montréal: Sunday, June 2

On the first Sunday in June, thousands of cyclists will gather in the heart of the city to take part in the classic Tour de l’Île de Montréal. Depending on your level of experience, you'll be able to enjoy a contemplative or sporty ride:

  • 50 or 25 km 50 km of car-free streets, the perfect opportunity to see Montreal differently. Possibility of shortening to 25 km.
  • 50 km Express accelerated version: you drive at 30 km/h for 1 h 30 on car-free streets.
  • 100 or 65 km Discovery The route is marked out on streets open to cars, except for the last 25 km when you'll be in the company of thousands of other Tour cyclists. Possibility of shortening to 65 km.

Again this year, the cost is just 10 $ for teens to take part in the Tour de l'Île or the Tour la Nuit (20 $ at the Défi métropolitain), while children from 12 and under will roll free of charge at the Festival Go vélo Montréal - a concrete action encouraging them to take part in physical activities.

« Since the very first edition of the Tour de l’Île de Montréal in 1985, Les Producteurs de lait du Québec have worked closely with Vélo Québec to encourage physical activity and promote healthy lifestyle habits. To help cyclists recuperate after their effort, we are pleased to offer them a container of milk at the end of their ride. »underlines Julie Gélinas, Marketing Director of Producteurs de lait du Québec.
