Montréal, January 22, 2025 - Vélo Québec presents «La Grande traversée», an ambitious roadmap to position Quebec as a leading cycling destination by 2030. The fruit of a vast collective process launched in 2023, this initiative brought together more than 520 participants from 20 regional and sectoral consultations.

Cycle tourism is a major economic driver for Quebec, generating more than $700 million in spending and $101 million in tax revenues each year, and supporting nearly 7,000 jobs. However, despite its many attractions, including more than 40 cycle routes, over 10,000 km of bike paths, over 150 mountain bike centers and nearly 3,000 km of trails, a lack of harmonization is holding back the industry's full potential.

Concrete actions for a promising future

The roadmap to make Quebec a world-class cycling destination by 2020 proposes 15 priority actions for the next 5 years. These actions are based on three main strategic priorities:

  1. Collaboration between players Create sectoral clusters and support regional consultations to harmonize efforts and optimize resources.
  2. Improving services for cyclists Develop safe and attractive infrastructure, while providing training and practical guides to enhance the cycling experience.
  3. Access to clear, centralized information : Collect data, promote regional attractions in a coherent way and launch a web platform dedicated to planning cycling activities and trips.

A call for mobilization

Vélo Québec invites all stakeholders - elected officials, tourism organizations, regional players and businesses - to get involved in this collective initiative. Together, we can make Quebec a must-see cycling destination for visitors from near and far.
