Montreal, Sunday, June 2, 2019 - The last cyclists on the 50 km Tour de l’Île de Montréal course crossed the finish line at Parc Jeanne-Mance at 3:35 pm; those on the 65-100 km Découverte course, at 4:20 pm. Despite the rain, 22,000 cyclists took part in the Tour de l'Île, which offered five possible routes.

A festive 35th Tour de l’Île de Montréal
This morning, the starting signal for the 35th edition of Tour de l’Île de Montréal was given in the presence of Mayor Valérie Plante and Chantal Rouleau, Minister responsible for the metropolis. Participants were treated to a sing-along with Émile Bilodeau and his guests, Lou-Adriane Cassidy and Jérôme 50. To the delight of the cyclists, together they revisited a classic from the Quebec repertoire: Tour of the island by Félix Leclerc!
A lively course!
In addition to three relays, encouragement posts were set up along the route to punctuate the cyclists' progress every 10 km. At the finish line in Parc Jeanne-Mance, the party continued with performances by Montréal Complètement Cirque.
A unique moment in the Olympic Stadium at Tour la Nuit!
On Friday, May 31, under a beautiful sunset, a magnificent light train of 15,000 cyclists spread out over 21 km for the 21st edition of the Tour la Nuit. Along the way, participants were treated to a breathtaking passage through the Olympic Stadium, greeted by a hundred tamtamists!

Défi métropolitain: the early-season classic!
The Défi métropolitain kicked off the activities of the Festival Go vélo Montréal on Sunday, May 26. No fewer than 3,500 participants took part in the annual event, riding distances ranging from 50 to 150 km from Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

The Go vélo Montréal Festival is a week-long celebration of urban living and cycling as a way of life. Each year, it launches ideas and stimulates exciting reflections on the city and the place of the bicycle within it.
Conference Electric bikes: the next revolution in urban mobility
On Thursday May 30, at the Maison du développement durable, Vélo Québec presented a lecture entitled Vélo électrique : la prochaine révolution en mobilité urbaine (Electric bikes: the next revolution in urban mobility) by Christopher Cherry, civil engineer and professor at the University of Tennessee. The conference discussed the rise of the electric-assist bicycle and this new reality, which should influence infrastructure designers and encourage, among other things, the emergence of bicycle parking facilities worthy of the name.
A celebration of bicycle-work
Bike to Work Day, promoting active and sustainable mobility, was held at Victoria Square on Wednesday, May 29. Vélo Québec and its partners were on hand to answer the public's questions about safety, routes to take, how public transit complements bikes, and more.
