Montreal, Wednesday, May 26, 2021 - Vélo Québec has always had more than one trick up its sleeve... To reconnect with cyclists of all ages and allow them to (re)experience the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, a Tour la Nuit and the Défi métropolitain, the Go vélo Montréal Festival - presented by Les Producteurs de lait du Québec, in collaboration with Desjardins - is looking forward to riding new versions of its events, exceptionally presented in July and August. The experience will certainly be different, but the pleasure of riding freely on car-free streets will be just as magical as ever, just in time to celebrate a back-to-school season unlike any other! Ready for the best party on the move? GO!
Tour de l’Île de Montréal - Sunday, August 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Tour de l'Île will take the form of a 33-km, car-free itinerary through the streets of 8 Montreal boroughs.
One Tour la Nuit - Friday, August 27, 8 to 11 p.m.
The Tour la Nuit will take the form of a 22-km, car-free itinerary through the streets of 4 Montreal boroughs.
An edition without a single start/finish site!
To ensure the smooth flow of cyclists and adequate distance along the route, there will be no single start/finish site. When registering, participants will have to choose a starting point from among 8 access points along the route, as well as a starting time from among the proposed time slots. Both Tours will start every 30 minutes. To enable cyclists to complete their loop at the same point from which they started, the Tour de l'Île and Tour la Nuit routes will be entirely closed to motorized traffic for the duration of the event.
Limited places and online registration
Registration procedures have been revised to adapt to the current context. Online registrations for the Tour de l'Île and Tour la Nuit are now possible up to the maximum number of cyclists. www.velo.qc.ca
The Metropolitan Challenge - Saturday, July 31
The Défi métropolitain invites cyclists to set their own pace and pedal an untimed route ranging from 50 to 140 km. It's an opportunity to discover a new part of the greater metropolitan region, starting in Châteauguay.
An enjoyable and safe experience for all!
For Jean-François Rheault, President and CEO of Vélo Québec, «all aspects of the tour related to the notion of gathering have been set aside so that cyclists can experience and enjoy the essential: cycling in the safest possible environment. Thanks to the new starting scenario proposed and the many advantages of cycling - an outdoor activity, a respected physical distance of two metres, imposed by the bike itself - combined with a space of several kilometers of streets to ride, all the elements are combined to let cyclists experience unique cycling moments.»
