Montreal, April 27, 2021- With municipal elections to be held in Quebec this fall, Piétons Québec, Vélo Québec and Trajectoire Québec are launching a survey to find out the priorities and concerns of citizens across Quebec when it comes to sustainable mobility.
The responses received will enable the organizations to gain a better understanding of citizens' priorities in terms of active and collective mobility, and can be used to create content to encourage elected officials and municipal candidates to take account of citizens' concerns in their decision-making.
«Walking is the basic mode of all travel and an essential link in the sustainable mobility chain. Seeing active and public modes of transportation as complementary is essential for any municipality wishing to offer its citizens more transportation choices and encourage the adoption of healthy, sustainable modes of transport. That's why this collaboration between our three organizations seems so relevant in the run-up to the next municipal elections. «Our travel habits are highly dependent on the layout of our living environments and the services available to us. Whether we walk, cycle or use public transport, we're all part of the solution! Municipalities must listen to their citizens, not only to meet the needs of those who already travel actively and collectively, but also to encourage those who would benefit from better alternatives to the solo car,» adds Jean-François Rheault, President and CEO of Vélo Québec.
«Municipal authorities have important levers at their disposal to make a difference in active and collective mobility. Consulting citizens is essential if we are to offer sustainable mobility services that truly meet their needs. We're aiming for a high level of regional representation to encourage elected officials and candidates from all walks of life to commit to concrete actions in favor of active and collective mobility,» concludes Sarah V. Doyon, General Manager of Trajectoire Québec.
