Montreal, October 2, 2018 - Vélo Québec and the Association québécoise du loisir municipal (AQLM) present the first Guide to developing and operating bike parks, available on the Sports Facility Guides platform. This new guide joins the popular Ball Field Maintenance Guide (2017) and the Outdoor Rink Development and Maintenance Guide (2018).
Mountain biking is an important summer leisure activity in Quebec, enabling citizens to stay active and enjoy the great outdoors. Small-scale bike parks have sprung up in many Quebec communities, aiming to bring the activity closer to home and enable riders to develop their technical skills in a fun, safe environment.
Hence the idea for this guide, designed to better equip Quebec municipalities, as well as organizations and volunteers who manage bike parks and mountain bike trails, to make them both more attractive and safer, and even to encourage their expansion.
The Guide d'aménagement et d'exploitation des véloparcs describes the best practices in the field for the development and maintenance of veloparks, based on the knowledge of volunteers and development professionals. This new guide is destined to become an essential reference for the development and operation of veloparks in Quebec, and indeed throughout the French-speaking world.
To produce this guide, Vélo Québec and the AQLM received support from the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur, Mountain Equipment Coop and the Mutuelle des municipalités du Québec.
