Montreal, Sunday, February 10, 2019 - As part of tomorrow's International Day of Women and Girls in Science, will be officially launched 20%, a new podcast co-produced by Québec Science and the’Acfas, in collaboration with Canadian Commission for UNESCOL'Oréal Canada and radio Choq.ca.

20% is a series of interviews with women working in science and techno who, as the title suggests, form only a small group. 20% of the workforce in these sectors. In this new podcast, they tell their stories! Episodes will be broadcast on Apple PodcastSoundcloud and on the Québec Science.

In 2019, the science and technology sectors remain male-dominated environments where equal opportunity is a concept that has hardly borne fruit. Studies show that women receive fewer grants, earn lower salaries, are less likely to become full professors and managers, are less frequently invited to speak at international meetings, receive fewer prestigious awards, and the sums of money associated with these awards are often lower...

In this first season, 22 women from all walks of life and disciplines will be invited to discuss their careers and confide in the journalists. Carine Monat and Chloé Freslon. They will share their successes and failures, their ambitions and doubts, their joys and sorrows. We'll also discover some inspiring scientists. Among them: Joanne Liu, president of Médecins sans frontières; Joëlle Pineau, director of Facebook's artificial intelligence research laboratory in Montreal; Farah Alibay, engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratoray; Isabelle Desgagné-Penix, Innu researcher specializing in biochemistry at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières; Alex Zandra, independent video game developer; Naysan Saran, co-founder and CEO of CANN Forecast; and Marianne Falardeau-Côté, doctoral student in polar science at McGill University.

The launch will take place

Monday, February 11, 2019, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Espace Thèsez-vous (7640, rue Lajeunesse, Montréal)

During the evening, media representatives are invited to meet the journalists and exceptional women who took part in this first season. RSVP : [email protected] or [email protected]

This evening is organized in collaboration with Québec Science, l’Acfas, the Canadian Commission for UNESCOL'Oréal Canada and radio Choq.ca. It is part of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
