Montreal, Thursday, July 25, 2019 - Vélo Québec is pleased to announce the coming into force of the Programme d'aide aux infrastructures de transport actif - Véloce III - Maintenance of Route verte and its branch lines, which was scheduled for Ministère des Transports' Sustainable Mobility Policy - 2030: Transporting Québec into the Future unveiled in April 2018. Vélo Québec is also pleased to note that the program has been indexed compared to its previous version, which ended on March 31, 2019.
According to Louis Carpentier, Director of Development for Route verte: «This program, the only one of its kind in North America, ensures the uniformity needed to maintain a 5,300 km network of safe, accessible, pan-Quebec cycling routes. Cyclists using the Route verte should be able to travel comfortably from one region to another, without any difference in the quality of the network.»
In addition to ensuring the network's longevity and maintaining a sustainable, safe level of quality, this program aims to support municipalities and bicycle network managers in their efforts to set up transportation infrastructures that encourage active travel.
