Montreal, Monday, May 28, 2018 - As part of the Go vélo Montréal Festival, Vélo Québec - in collaboration with the Conseil régional de l'environnement de Montréal - presents the conference How to mobilize the business world in favor of cycling? London's example!, of Chris Kenyon. A cycling activist and board member of London Cycling Campaign, a 12,000-strong cycling advocacy organization, Chris Kenyon is also vice-president of Cloud at Canonical, the high-tech company behind the Ubuntu data storage and processing software.
In 2014, Chris Kenyon launched Cycling Works, a campaign to mobilize senior business leaders to support the development of a network of protected cycle paths in the heart of London. Nearly 200 executives said yes, the operation was a resounding success and led to the creation of the popular cycle superhighways.
Chris Kenyon will explain how this mobilization campaign came about, what its follow-up will be, and how it could be envisaged in a city like Montreal. The conference will be followed by a discussion with Caroline Tessier, Executive Director of the Association des sociétés de développement commercial de Montréal, and Guillaume Lavoie, lecturer at ENAP, public policy entrepreneur and instigator of the #veloconomie capsules. With them, we'll look at how the experience here could be transposed to another scale, by integrating active transportation into the redevelopment of commercial arteries, for example.
