Montreal, October 19, 2018 - Vélo Québec congratulates the new Minister of Transport, Mr. François Bonnardel, and the new Minister Delegate for Transport and responsible for the Metropolis, Ms. Chantal Rouleau, on their recent appointments.
For Suzanne Lareau, President and CEO of Vélo Québec: «The Ministry of Transport plays a key role in organizing transportation and mobility throughout Quebec, and in implementing concrete solutions that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and overcome the climate crisis we are facing.»
As a complement to public transport, cycling is a simple and effective way of reducing GHG emissions, improving health for all, and contributing to the economic dynamism of the regions. «Quebecers are increasingly using bicycles for a variety of purposes, particularly for their daily commute, and it's essential to encourage them to use them even more. Mr. Bonnardel and Ms. Rouleau can be assured of Vélo Québec's full cooperation in helping them to promote cycling and sustainable mobility as part of the ministry's mission,» emphasizes Suzanne Lareau.
For more than 30 years, Vélo Québec has collaborated with the Ministère des Transports on a wide range of issues, including notices, symposia, technical publications and studies. And that's not counting the collaboration that has enabled, and continues to enable, the 5,000 kilometers of Route verte to be deployed across all regions of Quebec. Since 1995, with the support of the Ministry, Vélo Québec has been piloting what is one of Quebec's jewels in the crown, with multiple benefits for all regions.
