Montreal, Friday, August 31, 2017 - In the context of the municipal elections to be held on November 5, Vélo Québec today launches the discussion and exchange platform I vote bike.
Based on a web platform model that has proved its worth for several citizen consultations, I vote bike will encourage discussion of cycling issues at the municipal level. It will give Quebec citizens the opportunity to give their opinion in a constructive way, and to contribute to the debate by proposing their best ideas in favor of cycling in their municipality. I vote bike will be an opportunity to let people know that bicycle commitments will count in voters' choices on November 5!
«In the November 2013 municipal elections, fewer than one in two Quebecers took advantage of their right to vote. Yet municipal government is the one that most closely touches our daily concerns, with very real impacts on our living environment. When it comes to cycling, it's undeniable that almost everything is decided at municipal level. Through this discussion platform, Vélo Québec hopes that Quebecers will share their concerns and wishes regarding cycling with the candidates who will be running for office in their municipality this fall,» emphasizes Vélo Québec. Jean-François Pronovost, Vice President, Development and Public Affairs at Vélo Québec.
From now until mid-October, Vélo Québec is inviting citizens to contribute to the discussion so that cycling takes its rightful place in the electoral stakes, by going to www.jevotevelo.com and thus submit proposals, collect votes and elicit comments on their ideas. #jevotevélo
