Montreal, November 16, 2017 - Vélo Québec presented today Bicycle Vision 2025, the result of a participatory process orchestrated as part of its 50th anniversary, to imagine the Québec à vélo of tomorrow. Some 70 leaders and activists from the worlds of business, mobility, research, tourism, leisure and sport, from eleven regions, contributed to the development of the Bicycle Vision 2025.
«Although the exercise has no scientific pretensions, the result of this collection of ideas is nonetheless eloquent. It confirms that cycling is an issue present in all walks of life, and that it rallies an impressive variety of players in our society ready to pool their energies to advance bicycle use. Vélo Québec now hopes that as many organizations and individuals as possible will sign up to this initiative. Bicycle Vision 2025 and contribute to its implementation on all platforms in order to take cycling ever further and make it a vector for change in our society,» emphasizes Suzanne Lareau, president and CEO of Vélo Québec.
Bicycle Vision 2025 is based on the many benefits of cycling and has 5 objectives:
- Recognizing the right to travel safely
- Providing Quebec with superior infrastructure
- Obtain from the Quebec government a firm commitment and concrete actions in favor of cycling
- Making cycling an essential component of sustainable mobility
- Mobilizing players from all walks of life to promote bicycle use
