Eco-responsibility at the heart of our events
Vélo Québec attaches great importance to protecting the environment, and actively works to implement concrete measures to reduce the ecological footprint of its events.
4 guiding principles
We have established four main guiding principles that enable us to develop
clear objectives consistent with our mission, our vision and our values.
1- Equity, inclusion and accessibility
We want everyone can take part in our activities, whatever their condition or situation.
Our actions and our eco-responsible approach are guided by the following principles equity, inclusion and accessibility.
2 - Health and quality of life
Visit population health and improving quality of life are at the heart of our concerns. We encourage cycling for its positive effects on health and lifestyle.
3 - Environmental protection
Our mission the promotion of bicycle use is directly linked to the environmental protection.
We are concerned about the impact of our activities, Our activities, such as events and travel, have an impact on the quality of the environment and the sustainability of resources. We are committed to taking concrete action in line with our mission.
4 - Collaboration and transparency
Visit collaboration within our team, but also with our partners, suppliers and sponsors is essential to achieving our objectives.
We also want to demonstrate our transparency on the results of this eco-responsibility policy.






What we commit to
With clear objectives and transparencies, we are committed to the community to implement ambitious measures that will enable us to change our practices, make our products more eco-friendly events, and, more broadly, to contribute to environmental protection.
Act and reduce
- Manage procurement practices, and food in particular, with a view to reduced environmental footprint and increase positive social impact;
- Reduce and standardize the use of food and beverage containers.’disposable utensils with the aim of totally eliminating their use in major events by 2026;
- Optimizing reduction and sorting residual materials to achieve a detour rate of 80 % of residual materials from landfill at major events by 2026;
- Working on the reducing the transport footprint Vélo Québec's logistical support, and offer options for participants to use eco-responsible modes of transport (carpooling, carsharing, public transit, active transportation) to get to events.
Promoting and raising awareness
- Encourage and equip event participants at the’adopting more environmentally responsible practices;
- Promote at events as a way of helping to reduce people's environmental footprint;
- Maintain awareness-raising efforts and information to motorists about the route and streets blocked during the Go vélo Montréal Festival.
Measure
- Calculate the production footprint of residual materials on major events.
- Calculate visit greenhouse gas emissions generated by transport to the main events.
Collaborate
- Work with suppliers, sponsors and partners to limit environmental footprint events, notably by reducing the distribution of single-use objects;
- Partner with organizations, partners, sponsors and suppliers who share the same values Vélo Québec and who wish to participate in achieving its objectives.
