Montréal, Wednesday, June 11, 2025Vélo Québec welcomes the adoption of Montreal's Plan d'urbanisme et de mobilité 2050 (PUM). For the first time, this structuring initiative brings mobility and urban planning together in a single document to accelerate the socio-ecological transition to a more inclusive city.

Notably, Vélo Québec highlights commitments to pursue the extension of a cycling network for cyclists of all ages and abilities, to diversify the supply of self-service bicycles - notably with a view to territorial equity - and to reinforce access to secure bicycle parking.

The PUM is intended as a lever for reducing the impact of major transport and energy infrastructures. actively combat over-motorization. Commitment to developing carbon-free, agile logistics solutions, including cyclologistics is an opportunity for more peaceful neighborhoods.

Vélo Québec stresses the importance of ensuring that these orientations are reflected in local urban planning and mobility plans (PLUM) and borough urban planning bylaws., This is an essential prerequisite for safe, year-round cycling networks.

The success of this transformation will also depend on sustained support for local populations. It will be essential to clearly communicate the benefits of these changes to encourage collective support for the ambitious choices made in this plan.
