Montréal, Monday, September 16, 2019 - September 15 to 30, Vélo Québec, in conjunction with more than twenty post-secondary institutions, is taking advantage of the back-to-school season to launch a provincial mobilization campaign. Campus by bike. On this occasion, students are invited to get around on their bikes and do their bit for the environment. This initiative by Vélo Québec is part of the programming of the national campaign EMBARK! Sustainable mobility weeks, whose mission is to promote collective and active travel throughout the month of September.
«In the context of global warming, cycling represents a real option for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving collective well-being. Cycling is a quick and healthy way to get to campus, and an integral part of the transportation mix for efficient, sustainable mobility. On September 27, the day of the global climate strike, Vélo Québec is inviting not only students, but all citizens to use their bikes to get around and to attend the demonstration - a concrete gesture for the health of the planet! Starting today, CEGEPs and universities across Quebec participating in the Campus by bike are offering a wide range of activities to promote back-to-school cycling! The various campuses will be offering their students activities such as: lectures on bike commuting, documentaries on urban cycling, bike fairs, breakfasts to welcome cyclists, chiselling workshops, bike tune-up workshops, Vélo Québec awareness-raising booths on campus, etc. to consult the list of participating establishments, click here
And from September 23 to 27, to further encourage and involve the student community, Vélo Québec launches an Instagram photo challenge on its @veloquebec account. Students are invited to post one photo per day on their personal account, featuring a situation involving the use of their bike as active, green transportation.
