Launch of the REV: Vélo Québec welcomes Montreal's initiative and proposes to speed up the process

Montreal, May 27, 2019 - For Vélo Québec The announcement of the implementation of an island-wide cycling network, like the REV, is excellent news. This kind of effort is essential, given the administration's desire to see Montrealers more mobile, rather than alone in their cars. And in a context where Montreal wants to put forward an energy transition plan to reduce GHG emissions.

Today's announcement does, however, raise an important issue: the timetable. Vélo Québec would like to see a tighter schedule. «When we see titanic road infrastructure projects like the new Champlain Bridge or the dismantling of the Bonaventure Expressway being carried out to the tune of billions in incredibly short timeframes, we say to ourselves that a project like the REV should be accompanied by an ambitious timetable, commensurate with the growth in bicycle travel in Montreal,» asserts Vélo Québec. Suzanne Lareau, President and CEO of Vélo Québec.
