Mountain bike development

Since January 2012, Vélo Québec has officially added recreational mountain biking to the range of activities it actively promotes. The arrival of this new area of intervention is the result of a strategic alliance with the’Association for the Development of Mountain Bike Trails in Quebec (ADSVMQ), who has been working on this issue since 2004, giving a voice to the thousands of Quebec cyclists who use the trails in our forests and mountains, and to landowners who want to contribute to the development of recreational activities.

According to The state of cycling in Quebec in 2020, In 2020, 660,000 adult Quebecers used mountain bike trails, 40,000 more than in 2015. With the development of trails of varying levels of difficulty, there's no doubt that this number will continue to rise, in both natural and urban environments. Mountain biking is a wonderful activity that brings physical activity and the environment into symbiosis, with positive health, social and economic repercussions. In a society where inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle are on the rise among young people, the appeal of mountain biking to them is an invaluable asset.

Vélo Québec aims to defend and promote the interests of the recreational mountain biking by focusing on the development of :

By bringing together the various stakeholders and putting the organization's expertise, resources and dynamism at their service, Vélo Québec is pursuing its mandate to encourage cycling while helping to develop an original and competitive tourism product.
