Montreal, September 3, 2020 - Vélo Québec announces that its President and CEO, Mme Suzanne Lareau, will be stepping down in December, after a career spanning more than 35 years, 19 of which as head of the organization.

«It's time for me to hand over the helm to a new person who will assume leadership for the next few years. Vélo Québec is driven by a strong, motivated team operating in a niche market that is not about to run out of steam. Between now and my departure, I still have a number of projects that I hope to see through to completion, and I will ensure the transition with the person appointed by the Board of Directors to replace me,» asserts Suzanne Lareau.

«The change of direction at Vélo Québec will breathe new life into our movement. There's still a lot of work to be done to ensure that cycling is adopted as a means of daily transportation, the potential for growth is immense, and the environmental and public health challenges justify more than ever the place of cycling in urban mobility. It is therefore with real optimism that I look to the future of Vélo Québec, which will pursue its mission to develop and promote cycling, as it has done so well for 53 years,» she adds.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and all employees, Hélène Messier, Chairman of the Board of Vélo Québec, would like to thank Suzanne Lareau for her leadership, vision and determination at the helm of the organization. Under her leadership, Vélo Québec - and the cause of cycling - has experienced remarkable growth throughout Quebec.
