Why an observatory?

Born out of a desire to inform the public, the media, and decision-makers about the significant potential for a shift toward cycling, the Cycling Observatory serves as a hub for reliable data and knowledge that is accessible and tailored to the contexts of Quebec, Canada, and North America. Organized into four main themes, this data describes current cycling practices in Quebec and highlights the benefits of cycling for health, the environment, and the economy, both on an individual and collective level.

The Observatory aims to be dynamic and will evolve by incorporating the latest scientific research. Over time, new subtopics will be added to enhance the site in the coming months and years. To stay informed about the Observatory’s progress, sign up for the’newsletter The bike lane from Vélo Québec.

A dual mission

Via its section News, the Observatory also aims to promote, highlight, and make accessible scientific research from Quebec and Canada related to cycling. Researchers, students, and mobility professionals are therefore invited to publish short articles presenting their research findings.
