Dear cyclists,
The 2026 edition of the Go vélo Montréal Festival has just come to a close, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part.
Once again this year, thousands of cycling enthusiasts gathered to celebrate cycling, from the Défi métropolitain in the Laurentides to the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, which brought together more than 21,000 cyclists on the city’s streets. We also had the privilege of welcoming Florence Gall for an inspiring talk on the future of the cycling industry and the growing role women play in it.
Cette édition restera aussi marquée par l’annulation du Tour la Nuit. Cette décision difficile a été prise avant tout pour des raisons de sécurité. Nous savons à quel point cet événement est attendu et nous comprenons la déception que son annulation a suscitée. Au cours des prochaines semaines, nous prendrons le temps d’analyser la situation avec nos partenaires afin d’en tirer tous les enseignements nécessaires.
But when I think back on the Go Vélo Festival, what comes to mind most is what it has stood for over the past forty years.
Every year, for a few days, cycling brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Some participate to take on a challenge, others to explore a route, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy the pleasure of riding together. It is these shared moments that have allowed the Festival to endure over the decades and become a true Quebec tradition.
The enduring success of the Tour de l’Île and the Festival’s other activities also reminds us just how much cycling has become a part of our lives. Of course, there is still much to be done to make our roads safer and our communities more welcoming to cyclists. But each edition of the Festival is a testament to the progress we’ve made and the enthusiasm for cycling that remains as strong as ever.
At Vélo Québec, we are proud to be part of this movement and grateful to have such a dedicated community. It is thanks to you that this journey continues year after year.
