Reflective elements

• A  White front reflector

  Yellow or white reflector on spokes OR reflective tire sidewalls OR reflective tape on both sides of rim OR yellow or white reflective tape on both sides of fork

Light for riding in the dark

• F  Headlight or white light on front

To make sure you're never caught unprepared, install a dynamo lighting system. And always carry spare lights.

• 1  Mudguard
  Indispensable for keeping your clothes clean when it's raining or the road is wet.
• 2  Luggage rack
  Equipped with a basket or saddlebags, the luggage rack saves you from having to carry your bag or hang it on your handlebars. In case of rain, a waterproof pannier or bag cover is very useful to protect your personal belongings.
• 3  Doorbell
  To warn pedestrians, cyclists and motorists of your presence. Use in moderation.
• 4  Stand
  To keep your bike upright when not in use.
• 5  Chain guard
  To protect the bottom of your pants. In its absence, a trouser hanger will do the trick.

Other useful accessories

• Mirror
  Adding a mirror to your handlebars or helmet means you don't have to look back to see if a car or cyclist is coming up behind you. It's particularly useful in the city, where traffic density demands constant attention, and when riding with children, to see if they're keeping up and riding in line.
